HOW IT ALL BEGAN

Squirrel Creek Appaloosa Stud got its name because of when an English couple that was staying on the farm in the early 1920's saw  possums  in the tea tree along the creek, and thought they were Squirrels.

How I got into Appaloosa’s and breeding them started when my daughter was looking for a horse. After she got her Appaloosa mare, I thought wow she’s incredible. It was then I was on the lookout for a black appaloosa foal.  To cut a long story short I found a 5-week-old filly that was dark brown. We arranged to pick her up at 6 months old with my daughter saying if you don’t want her mum, I will have her. The trip on the way home was filled with thinking of a name for her. Midnight Dream it would be. First look at her and no way was I giving her to any one.  It was love at first site. This filly has grown into beautiful quick learning, versatile mare with a fantastic temperament which Appaloosas are known for .We had a lot of fun while she was growing up, learning about natural horsemanship together.  Sometimes for fun we would ride bareback and crack a stockwhip with just a halter and lead.  Midnight (pet name) is one of my many Appaloosas I have shown and we always seem to do well at the shows .

I am now well into a breeding program which most of my horses are duel registered with A&ASP/AAA. First starting with a stallion called Warralea Spotlight. He gave me the incentive to want to prolong this Appaloosa breed that is so unique and versatile with a trainable temperament and so Squirrel Creek Appaloosa Stud was born. We then moved onto a stallion called Northbound Ima Goer a (Joker Wildew Bloodline). He has produced some lovely foals and they will stay in my breeding program. I have bred a cutting Stallion called Squirrel Creek Magic Spin. (Magic is a chestnut Leopard with Docs Spinifex bloodline).  He has produced some stunning foals with the terrific appaloosa temperament and colour.
They are suitable for the show ring or any disapline.
Magic has since been sold.
The two Stallions here at Squirrel Creek Stud are one, a black stallion named Heavenly Saint (hank) who has produced a lot of beautiful foals. He is standing at stud live and AI.  He stands 15.1 is black with a spotted blanket and can be seen in the stallion page. What we have bred I am very happy with. The second stallion is Moonshine Poco Bandit a black leopard standing 15hh. He will have his first lot of foals this season 2014/15. Now to update you. We had a lot of outstanding foals from Moonshine Poco Bandit but I wanted to get the old bloodlines back into my breeding program and got offered a stallion called Salhaven Cheyenne a chestnut leopard. He had his first lot of foals here in 2018 and I am very pleased to say we got a lovely coloured lot.
